Chinese New Year is a time to gather with family, honour ancestors and celebrate with a big banquet that symbolizes prosperity in the New Year. When visiting friends and family over the New Year it is customary to take gifts such as tangerines and oranges, as their Chinese names sound like “luck” and “wealth”. Tangerines and oranges are frequently displayed in homes and shops over the 15 days of celebration.
